Vector is a Universally Useful Technique for Media
A vector is an art composition made up of points, which are defined by start and end dots, curves, and angles along the way. To create a vector I use a software program such as Adobe Illustator. This program uses mathematic equations and geometric bases to create simple drawings or complex diagrams. Every single day we see different images on websites, books, magazines, and billboards; each created with a specific target audience in mind. We must communicate volumes in a blink of an eye and you always want to communicate clearly with high quality images. Vectors are the life of these images.
Why Are They Useful?
Vectors are useful because they are not made with a specific number of dots. Sometimes the more dots you use the more details you can show. They can be scaled to a large or small size and not lose any image quality. This quality is perfect for logos, which can be manipulated to a small size for a business card or a giant size for a billboard, with colors and other details able to be changed as often as necessary.
Edison Chouest Offshore
This project is one of my favorites! Every year as a tradition this company sponsors a fishing tournament.
They invite their most important customers and to boost this event, they requested a very unique design to apply in
different promotional products. They provided the picture of the boat to use, and the rest was up to me! The water was the most
difficult challenge to design for this composition. I knew the graphic must transmit motion in every single detail, and I was
extremely happy with how I was able to manipulate the lighting effects on the water to create an optical illusion of motion.
Offshore Cap
The projects at Wayne Enterprises have been some of the most challenging of my career, and have really grown my skills in my profession. Oil companies are some of the most demanding in Houston, Texas and the marketing department at Wayne decided to produce a new embroidery cap to appeal to offshore oil companies. To start, I performed an enormous amount of research to define the most relatable and attractive offshore scene to capture the customer's attention. This scene was the winner. With the right presentation and perfect contrasting thread color options, the design was sent overseas to be embroidered. After several embroidery editions, we landed with this timeless design. The Offshore Cap was reproduced in three different color versions and is one of my favorite projects to see in the field.
Camo Cooler Design
Marketing departments are always promoting new ideas and renovating their promotional products to appeal to different target groups. The marketing department at Wayne decided to renovate a cooler design using one of the best selling camo patterns in the hunting industry. We added a traditional yet unique hunting scene from different views and included oil imagery to satisfy our target market. In order to reproduce this design we received the copyright permission to use the Camo design and included the logo of Wayne Workwear, Wayne Enterprises' retail brand name. The result was a fun and very interesting design.
